Late Sharayu Suryakant Sawant to Be Honored Posthumously with “Nari Shakti Sanman Award 2026”

The spirit of social service often shines brightest through individuals who dedicate their lives to helping others. Late Sharayu Suryakant Sawant was one such inspiring figure who devoted herself to community welfare and humanitarian work.

A graduate in Arts, Sharayu Sawant served as an Anganwadi worker and was widely recognized for her compassionate service toward the underprivileged. Born into a family with a strong background in social work, she developed a deep sense of social responsibility from an early age. After her marriage, she received unwavering encouragement and support from her husband, Mr. Suryakant Mandakini Babaji Sawant, which further strengthened her commitment to community service.

Sharayu Sawant actively participated in celebrations marking the birth anniversaries of national leaders and used such occasions to organize educational and awareness initiatives. After the passing of her mother-in-law, Late Mandakini Babaji Sawant, she chose not to retreat in grief. Instead, she honored her memory by organizing social welfare activities every year, keeping her legacy alive through service to the community.

Throughout her life, she carried out numerous humanitarian initiatives, including distributing food to the needy, providing clothes to the poor, offering medicines and health assistance, and supporting families in distress. She also participated in cultural and religious events across communities, promoting harmony and unity among people of different faiths.

Her dedication to education was particularly remarkable. She provided free tutoring to underprivileged students, paid school fees for those who could not afford them, and distributed school uniforms, shoes, and educational materials. She also celebrated birthdays for children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, bringing smiles and joy to their lives.

During Christmas celebrations in her locality, she would dress as Santa Claus and distribute cakes, sweets, and chocolates to children from poor families, spreading happiness and festive cheer.

She also organized Haldi-Kumkum gatherings and educational competitions for women, encouraging social participation and empowerment. What made her work even more extraordinary was her determination to continue serving society while battling cancer. During the COVID-19 pandemic, despite her serious health condition, she courageously distributed essential ration supplies to families in need, placing community welfare above her own hardships.

She remained actively involved in community celebrations such as Ambedkar Jayanti, public Ganesh festivals, and national events, often bringing students together to spread awareness and civic values.

During her lifetime, Late Sharayu Sawant also established the “Matoshri Mandakini (Shanti) Charitable Trust” in memory of her mother-in-law. Through this initiative, she significantly expanded the scope of her social work and paid a heartfelt tribute to her mother-in-law by serving society in her name. Unfortunately, her journey of service was cut short due to her battle with cancer.

However, her mission continues. Her husband, Mr. Suryakant Mandakini Babaji Sawant, has been carrying forward her unfinished work with the same dedication and passion. Even today, through the charitable trust, assistance continues to be extended generously to those in need.

In recognition of her remarkable contributions to society, Late Sharayu Suryakant Sawant has been selected to receive the “Nari Shakti Sanman Award 2026” posthumously. The award will be presented on the occasion of International Women’s Day at a ceremony jointly organized by Srushti Foundation, Rugn Hakk Abhiyan, and Lokvarta. The award will be accepted on her behalf by her husband, Mr. Suryakant Mandakini Babaji Sawant.

Late Sharayu Sawant’s life stands as a powerful testament to compassion, resilience, and selfless service. Her legacy continues to inspire many, and her contributions to society will be remembered for years to come.
